Everything You Need To Know
What Is A Major Inspection?
A comprehensive inspection of your EWP covering every mechanical, structural, hydraulic, and safety system. Non-destructive testing of welds, load testing, and a full functional check.
Why Is It Required?
It's a legal requirement under AS2550.10. Non-compliance means WorkSafe action, fines, and insurance risk. More importantly - it protects operators working at height every day.
When Is Mine Due?
First inspection at 10 years from manufacture, then every 5 years. Enhanced periodic inspections (annual) begin at year 5. Check your compliance plate - the next due date is stamped on it.
What A Proper Inspection Actually Finds
A machine can look fine from the outside and still be hiding a cracked weld, a worn pin joint, or corrosion nobody's checked in years. A proper major inspection means dismantling critical components and testing what's underneath - not a same-day onsite once-over. That's why it can't be done properly in an afternoon.
JCB 535-140 Loadall Major Inspection
This JCB 535-140 Loadall telehandler came into our Williamstown workshop for a full major inspection. From the outside the machine looked ready for work - once it was stripped, the findings told a different story. Sidewall damage on a tyre, split and cracked hydraulic hoses, heavy contamination, and the boom opened up for a proper structural look. This is what a real inspection turns up.
